Simple and Flavorful Roast Turkey for Home Chefs

Easy Roast Turkey made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 whole turkey 12-14 pounds
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 lemon quartered
  • Fresh herbs rosemary and sage

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Prepare the turkey by removing the giblets and patting it dry.
  3. Mix softened butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and thyme in a bowl.
  4. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  5. Stuff the cavity of the turkey with lemon quarters and fresh herbs.
  6. Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan.
  7. Roast in the preheated oven, basting every 30 minutes.
  8. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part.
  9. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
