Ingredients
  

  • 400 g pasta spaghetti or fettuccine
  • 4 large onions thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes or to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
  • Parmesan cheese for serving optional

Method
 

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. Heat and add olive oil to a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the onions to the skillet and sprinkle with salt.
  4. Once onions are soft and golden, approximately 30-40 minutes, add black pepper and red chili flakes.
  5. Combine the cooked pasta with the caramelized onion mixture.
  6. Serve garnished with fresh basil or parsley and shaving of Parmesan, if using.
