Indulge in a Decadent Chocolate Turtle Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped pecans gently into the batter.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, drizzle the caramel sauce over one layer and sprinkle half of the pecans.
  • Place the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with the remaining caramel sauce, then garnish with the rest of the pecans.
  • For the finishing touch, sprinkle extra chocolate chips over the top if desired.
