Ingredients
For the Brownie Layer:
-
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
-
1 cup sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
For the Cookie Layer:
-
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
-
1/2 cup brown sugar
-
1/4 cup white sugar
-
1 large egg
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
-
Make the brownie batter: In a bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla; whisk until smooth.
-
Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Pour brownie batter evenly into prepared pan.
-
Make the cookie dough: In another bowl, beat softened butter with brown sugar and white sugar until creamy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
-
Add flour, baking soda, and salt to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
-
Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough evenly over the brownie batter. Gently spread it out so it covers most of the top (it’s okay if some brownie peeks through).
-
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.
-
Cool completely before cutting into squares for the best texture.
