Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownie Layer:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.

  2. Make the brownie batter: In a bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla; whisk until smooth.

  3. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined. Pour brownie batter evenly into prepared pan.

  4. Make the cookie dough: In another bowl, beat softened butter with brown sugar and white sugar until creamy. Beat in egg and vanilla.

  5. Add flour, baking soda, and salt to the wet ingredients and mix until combined. Fold in chocolate chips.

  6. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough evenly over the brownie batter. Gently spread it out so it covers most of the top (it’s okay if some brownie peeks through).

  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs.

  8. Cool completely before cutting into squares for the best texture.
